In this episode Kurt and Anna move into a new apartment in Berlin while their mother, Gertrud, struggles to make ends meet. A surprise gift from Mr. Schechter, a family friend, allows the children to attend a prestigious school. Later, Gertrud adjusts to her new life in Berlin while Kurt has a run in with a bully and makes a new friend. Meanwhile, Mr. Schechter experiences firsthand the rising tide of antisemitism.
