“You talk to me
As if from a distance
And I reply
With impressions chosen from another time…”
~ Brian Eno.
April & May 1889.
Theo and Jo get married in Amsterdam while Vincent, with the help of the Ginouxs, puts his furniture into storage and ships the remaining paintings to Paris. He also writes to Theo about the paintings stolen by Gauguin and hopes that they’ll be able to get them returned soon.
In Seville, Isolda recovers from her illness but Samira, while giving birth to her daughter, passes away. In Arles, the mayor decides to act on the petition which forces Vincent to leave Arles. Out of money and with nowhere left to stay, he walks to the St. Paul Asylum in St. Remy. Once there, he’s given two upstairs rooms at his disposal.
Back in Arles, Tiena learns of Samira’s death and shares the news with Madame Chabaud, who releases Tiena so she can return to Seville. At the asylum, Vincent meets his caretaker, Pierre, who accompanies him on his walks beyond the asylum walls.
