Kurt wins his final race of the season. As he celebrates with Elisabeth, Heinrich approaches and informs Kurt that they expect “good things” from him in the near future. Meanwhile, Oskar and Anna prepare for the birth of their first child. leading to Oskar’s decision to decline an assignment so he can spend more time with her.
Kurt visits with Moshe and shares his concerns about Heinrich and the changes taking place on campus. Moshe reassures him, saying that waves of antisemitism reoccur from time to time and everything should blow over soon enough. Meanwhile, Wilhelm fights with a co-worker at the lumber mill over his failure to join the Nazi party. During the scuffle, Wilhelm severs the man’s ear with a knife.
During the Night of the Long Knives, Heinrich and his henchmen break into Oskar’s apartment and drag him away. As Anna pleads for his life, Heinrich promises to return so he can finish what he started years earlier. As news reaches Kurt, he sprints over to Anna’s apartment only to discover that she’s missing.
