“I’m gonna smash down all your plate glass windows
Put a fist, put a fist through your steel-plated door…”
~ The Rolling Stones.
July 1935.
Moshe, with Kurt’s help, finally closes the shop. Kurt feels sad to see his second home emptied out, but Moshe tells him that nothing lasts forever.
The following day they visit Mrs. Altmann in the Bavarian Quarter for lunch. While at the cafe on Kurfurstendamm, Kurt expresses concern about the rise of antisemitic behavior and propaganda spreading throughout Berlin. Moshe reassures Kurt, while Mrs. Altmann admits that Fritz has already made preparations to move his business to England. Meanwhile, Elisabeth is busy at the hospital as she nears completion of her training.
Later that night riots break out along the entire length of Kurfurstendamm as SA troops, dressed in civilian clothes, instigate violence. While the police watch, people are dragged from their cars or attacked for “looking Jewish.” Elisabeth treats the wounded at the hospital, including Mrs. Altmann. Moshe and Kurt finally arrive at the hospital for Mrs. Altmann, who urges Moshe to leave Berlin as soon as he’s able.
