Patrick learns about Ms. Allen cancer diagnosis and pays her a visit. She urges an emotional Patrick to put the past behind him, including Ali, but he admits that’s impossible. Meanwhile, April opens up to her father about her feelings for Patrick, causing the Reverend to caution her about expecting him to reciprocate those feelings given his past.
Gus finally attends church services with Colleen, but Patrick refuses to join them. Meanwhile, April gets accepted into Union Theological Seminary but keeps the news from her parents. Later, a frustrated Anne expresses concern about April’s lack of direction ever since Patrick and Colleen showed up in town.
Later, April overhears her father and Colleen talking in his office about Ms. Allen. She confronts Patrick with the news and asks to meet her, and though Patrick says no, finally relents to her wishes.
