“I feel stupid when I pray
So, why am I praying anyway?
If nobody’s listening…”
~ Demi Lovato.
September & October 1993.
Still working the night shift at Barr associates, Michael gets a call from Cassie. Ostensibly checking in about his graduation from ITT Technical Institute, she asks if he’s currently seeing anyone. Michael admits that he won’t attend the ceremony and shares how he isn’t seeing anyone at the moment. After finishing his shift, he visits Gary and learns about his DUI a month earlier and suspended driver’s license. Michael warns him not to drive and urges Gary to call him when he needs a car.
Rajani suffers another “fainting spell,” this time in Ronit’s kitchen. A maid servant finds her and fetches Ronit while Samina shoots another movie. He takes her to the hospital, but a stubborn Rajani insists that it’s nothing and, despite the doctor’s protestations, checks herself out of the hospital.
While running errands with his car, Gary get blindsided by a drunk driver. Police arrive on the scene and fault the other driver, who’s drunk, and reassure Gary that driving on a suspended license is a minor infraction. An ambulance takes Gary to the hospital, but before a doctor can examine him, he leaves and walks the streets until midnight.
The next morning, Michael receives a call from Sue that Gary has taken his life.
