“Somewhere there is some place, that one million eyes can’t see
And somewhere there is someone, who can see what I can see…”
~ Simple Minds.
May 1890.
After waking in his attic bedroom lit by a skylight, Vincent gets directions from the owner, Arthur Ravoux, and goes for a walk in the surrounding countryside. He spots Marguerite Gachet in the garden outside of her home, and has his first meeting with Dr. Gachet. Later, he writes to Theo that Dr. Gachet is “sicker” than him.
At “Case de Mara,” Juan Carlos proposes marriage to Tiena on the patio overlooking Bilbao, but she turns him down. After she shares about her time in Arles losing her sister, Tiena offers him a simple choice – life with her and her family with no strings attached, or leave and find someone else. After his departure without giving her an answer, Tiena wonders if that’s the last time she’ll see him.
Vincent dines in the Inn and meets Louise Ravoux, the proprietor’s wife, and their two daughters, Adeline and Germaine. As Vincent makes little sketches for baby Germaine, he’s introduced to Anton Hirschig, a young Dutch painter also staying at the Inn. In Paris, Madeleine’s father speaks with Charles Laval about Emile’s complaints against him, and finally gives his approval for their wedding to proceed in the summer.
