“I could possibly be fading
Or have something more to gain
I could feel myself growing colder
I could feel myself under your fate…”

June, July & August 1996.
In the aftermath of two surgeries, Rajani hasn’t regained her ability to speak and resorts to hand gestures to communicate her needs. And though nurses visit to help care for her mother, Samina remains by her mother’s and refuses to work. The only bright spot in her life has been Ronit’s constant support.
In St. Lous, KK’s brother is gunned down in a drive-by-shooting. Later, Michael receives news that the community plans on leaving St. Louis in the coming year, forcing Michael to move to NYC and transfer to a new college. An emotional Michael says goodbye to the children in the summer program, and later that night KK takes him to a Cardinal’s game.
Rajani passes away. Soon after, Samina realizes she’s pregnant. Ronit and Samina make the long trip to Dhanushkodi Beach at Rameshwaram and scatter Rajani’s ashes in the sea while he makes arrangements to discreetly marry Samina. Before returning to Bombay, they get married in a small temple in Shirdi and Adil attends with his wife. Later, Ronit discovers the truth of Samina’s desperate financial situation, leading to an argument about why he really married her in the first place.
Meanwhile, Michael transfers to St. John’s University and meets Adam and Rupa on the first day of classes.
