“You take my hand, I’ll take your hand.
Together we may get away….”
~ Neil Young.
July 1890.
Marguerite ventures into the fields around her home, unaware that her brother Paul has seen her sneaking out. She finds Vincent near the river and proposes marriage. After telling her that his heart belongs to another, she confesses that she only wants to take care of him and support his work. Vincent relents, causing a delighted Marguerite to hurry home to tell her father the good news while Vincent takes a nap in the fields.
Hearing his name, Vincent wakes and spots an angry Gachet aiming a pistol in his direction. The doctor fires three shots but only one hits Vincent in the stomach. After Vincent scurries away and hides in a barn, Dr. Gachet collects Vincent’s painting supplies and hides them in his attic.
Later that night Vincent stumbles into the Inn, causing Louise Ravoux to ask if he’s okay. Vincent waves the family off and heads upstairs, followed by Arthur Ravoux who hears Vincent’s moans and immediately summons a doctor.
